My story

I was in the right place (crashing in the attic of an overcrowded house in NW Portland) at the right time. While watching a meaningless preseason Monday Night Football game with some friends, as one had time to do in their early 20s, a fellow University of Oregon alum mentioned he was looking for a writer. A short time later, I had the Instagram, Twitter and Facebook passwords saved in a safe spot (my iPhone Notes app) and I was the Voice of @Nike. As an Oregon kid, born and raised, this was my Holy Grail. As @Nike’s senior writer, I brought back the irreverent, unmistakable voice that separated Nike in the first place. I delivered world class-content, set brand strategy and helped set industry standards. I’ve ghostwritten for Kobe, crafted jokes for Kevin Hart’s Nike Running podcast, created World Cup content in Salvador, São Paulo and the beaches of Rio de Janeiro and motivated millions. But nothing was more rewarding than bringing inspiration to every athlete*, every day.

When my wife gave birth to our identical twin girls early, and my agency-alloted, two-week paternity leave wouldn’t cut it, she … “encouraged” me to start freelancing. Her belief in me changed our lives for the better and also meant I was changing diapers between client calls, bottle feeding and brainstorming at the same time and writing copy with a couple of kids crawling on me. That was seven years ago, and I’ve been running my business ever since. From taglines to tweets to a museum full of copy, literally, I’ve written it all.

Thanks for stopping by to check it out.
